How Shad/Zelda is indeed possible.
Shad's father served the Royal Family and during his years of service within the castle he discovered the oocca and began his research from there. Shad, as we all know, continues his fathers work. So it's no stretch assuming Shad uses the castle library, with permission from Princess Zelda of course, to help with his research. Also, with Shad's father having worked in the castle, it's possible Shad may even know Zelda from childhood (I'm not necessarily saying they were childhood friends, at least not like Link and Ilia, just that they may have met on several occasions as children).
